Memorial for Cyclist killed on Bayview Ave.

Some of the 22 riders who rode during the memorial for the cyclist killed by a truck on Bayview.

It should be noted that AA Heaps nor any other official from the city attended the memorial despite several invitations from ARC and others. Instead the city chose to hold this event on the same day.

The fallen cyclist was described by a friend as: "... An excellent cyclist who understood the rules of the road and for many years he rode the same route to work every day in all seasons. He rode because he believed that one less car on the road was helping everybody."

A cyclist was killed this morning when his bicycle collided with a garbage
truck in the city’s north end. The City of Toronto truck and the cyclist were both travelling southbound on Bayview Ave. just south of Highway 401 when they collided where the road narrows at Fife Rd., said Toronto police Staff Sgt. Keith Haines.
The truck was towing a trailer with a Bobcat industrial machine on it, he said. Haines said the southbound lanes of Bayview would remain closed for “a while” as police investigate the accident, which occurred around 8 a.m. The victim was believed to be about 35, but police could not immediately identify him. He was taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where he died from his injuries. CBC Story

A Memorial For Toronto's Fallen Cyclists 1996-2007

Memorial by Jordan Lyndel with help from other artists. Located at Wallace and Campbell in front of Yasi's Place. A white ribbon for every Toronto Cyclist killed in traffic since 1996 was added to the installation in their memory. Jordan would like to encourage all to add a ribbon for other fallen cyclists.

In heaven, everyone rides a bicycle.
